Miss Rigby paused for a moment, 'Hmm... a little while, I suppose, though I'm not certain.'
'Ah, well that is fine. Just be sure to sign out when you are ready. I will leave you to get yourself comfortable now. Enjoy your stay!' Sarah left the room.
Halfway down the stairs, she heard the doorbell ring. We are busy tonight! she thought to herself, but was still glad to accommodate any guest that happened to stumble upon the small bed and breakfast.
Passing the tabby cat, Sarah patted it on the head, and it responded with a growl. Sarah patted it harder and told it to be nice, then continued to the door.
She reached the door to find a young woman on the other side of it. ' 'Ello, there! Let me take those for you.' Sarah said, picking up a few of the things, 'If you don't mind, that is.'
'Oh, of course not.'
Sarah noticed the cat carrier, 'Oh! You brought a friend. I'm sure the other cats will warm up to this little fellow nicely. What's its name? Oh, yes, and while I'm at it: what is your name, and how long do you plan to stay, if you don't mind me asking?'

"You don't mind my bringing him? Oh, good. I was a little worried about that. His name is Shadow. You say you have cats, too? I'm sure he'll get along nicely, then. He's very sociable. But I haven't told you about myself, yet, have I? I'm Kestrel Fairbairn. You can call me Kes, if you like, or, um, anything else you want!
I'm not really sure how long I'll be staying. I needed a break, so I came here. I brought my work with me, so that's no trouble. I'm a linguist, you see. I do translation, and such stuff. As long as I have access to the internet and a post office, I can work from anywhere. So I guess I'll just stay until I'm ready to go, if that's alright. I don't want to infringe upon your hospitality. But it's not like I really have anywhere else to go."

Kryst darted around from...wherever she was, guitar in hand, and saw that they had a new visitor. She jumped up and greeted her. She seemed to be around Kryst's age.
'Hail!' Kryst said with a childish grin and bowed dramatically. 'Welcome to our BB! I'm glad you chose our little place. Its not much, but we sure love cats around here!' she said eyeing the beautiful cat, 'I'm Kryst Blaze. Call me Kryst, call me Blaze, doesn't matter, and you are Kes, if I'm not mistaken?'
Kryst grinned even wider as the woman replied.
'Yes, that's me, and this here's Shadow.' she smiled graciously.
'Oh, that's wonderful! What a pretty cat you have.'
Turning to Sarah, she asked her, 'So, is pizza alright? Its on its way as we speak. Kes, if you don't mind me calling you that, pizza is on its way if you'd like some, if not I can make you up a special dish - whatever you like.'
Sarah eyed Kryst carefully, and sighed the same sigh she did everytime Kryst was up to something. 'How long ago did you order it?'
'Fifteen minutes. It should be here in 3...2...1-'
At this the doorbell rang, and Kryst grabbed for the door. ''sides, Sarah, it's out of my own pocket. You need a break from all your work too, you usually prepare all the meals and whatnot. Christine! Pizza! Gather Eleanor and Elenna, put in the movie, eh?' she yelled out.

I think I'll like this place, Kes thought. The people seem really friendly. Now to remember their names.. The woman her age looked like fun. Kes liked the place already. And they were having pizza! Most excellent. With any luck there'd be a Tolkien fan in the house, and maybe someone slightly insane, as well. In a good way, of course. Kryst seemed to be the most likely candidate.
"You're having pizza? I'd love some!" Kes exclaimed. "I do hope you won't have to order more now that you have another person to feed!"
She bent and opened the door of Shadow's carrier. The sleek black cat immediately ran off to acquaint himself with the other feline residents of the house. They seemed to be getting along nicely, even if one of them was unusually grumpy.
"Oh, and, um, what movie would you happen to be watching? I think I'll join you, if that's alright. The translations from French can wait until tomorrow."
Kes hoped it would be something good. Something like... The Lord of the Rings. She couldn't wait for The Return of the King to come out on DVD. And on the off-chance that they actually were watching LOTR (Kes laughed at herself for her unrealistic wishful thinking), and they didn't have the EEs, well, Kes had made sure to bring them. Because, well, she couldn't do wihtout them, even if she wouldn't be able to watch them. They just wouldn't have been safe if she had left them behind.

'I believe its Kryst's turn to choose that,' Sarah said, 'I shall take these to your room, which shall be the third door down after you've gone up the stairs.'
Sarah picked up the bags and took them to the room. Setting them down near the wall, she made sure the room was neat and tidy. After fixing a few curtains, she locked the door, and then back down stairs she handed Kes the key.
At that moment, the tabby cat scurried by, eyes wide, and the black cat followed. 'Heh, he's sort of afraid of other cats.. But don't worry: he won't hurt anyone or anything... I've rid him of that habit with a certain squeaky object of mine.'
The calico soon slipped by, and then the bigger tabby, who stopped, sniffed Kes, then scurried away, though slowly. 'Well, I'm glade to see that Shadow enjoys their company. Ah, yes. Kryst, what did ye choose?'

'Fellowship of the Ring...Extended Edition. I assume that if our guests stay long enough we'll see The Two Towers: EE sometime in the next few days. Is that alright with ye, Kes?' Kryst said gravely. Lord of the Rings was something she took very seriously. Kes looked at her wide-eyed. 'Are you serious?! That's wonderful!!!' she yelped gleefully. Kryst could tell she would get along with Kes just fine. 'Great,' said Kryst, grinning again, 'Then onward and upward...and if anyone asks, I'm Mr. Underhill!' she winked as she marched with the pizza to a nice sized table that would seat all the guests. She served everyone a slice to begin with, and Christine got out drinks for everyone. For some reason, Kryst and Christine never let Sarah serve drinks. ( ) Kryst suddenly realised she had her guitar in her hand the whole time. She glanced at it, strummed a few chords, then set it aside. She would play it later, she deemed.

The guests sat around the table, while Sarah got her Fellowship of the Ring EE DVDs and stuck it into the DVD player. The table was conveniently located so that no one had to strain to see the television. Sarah handed out the pizza, and then set the boxes on a smaller table nearby (so that if anyone wanted to get another slice, they didn't have to miss any of the movie ^ ^.) After everyone was situated, Sarah played the movie and then sat down at her seat. The little cat queue popped into the room and located themselves in front of the television. The male tabby located himself on a coffee table (lots of tables, eh?) blocking part of the screen. Sarah rolled up a sheet of paper from her notebook and threw it at him. He turned and hissed, but then sat on the floor. (*sorry, I pick on 'im, considering he's my cat *) Sarah rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a couple of bags of chips, and then rushed back. Setting them in the middle of the table, she finally started to actually watch the movie, but then soon considered a few things. 'Does anyone need popcorn?' Sarah asked, wondering if there would be any bouncing off a few certain peoples faces during the movie.

Popcorn... That sounded interesting. Kes had never really been fond of popcorn... not to eat, anyway. But Kryst seemed to be fun and immature. The movie was great, but everyone had seen it a million times. They wouldn't mind the odd popcorn battle, would they? Kes didn't want to create a mess for Christine, Kryst, and Sarah to pick up, but she did want to have fun.
"Sure, I'll have some popcorn," she said. "Thanks!"
She could eat a bit of it now and then, and keep it on hand, just in case. Kes took a bite of pizza, savoring the cheese and pepperoni. Wow, this was a good movie. Of course it was! The hobbits were so cute and hobbit-like.. Strangely enough, they reminded her of her uncles. And vetter. She couldn't forget her vetter, now, could she?
Kes couldn't resist making funny comments every now and then. No one seemed to mind, thankfully. This really was a fun bunch.

"I'm trying to assasinate you." Kryst said just as Gandalf said "I'm trying to help you." the others snackled from behind their popcorn, ready to pelt it at any domranly blonde-ish elf. They watched and laughed, each making a hysterical comment every now and again.
"STOP ABUSING MERRY, YOU MORONS!" everyone burst out as Merry was terribly abused. From then on they shouted out 'stop abusing Sam' or Frodo, or Pippin, or any other hobbit, really.

"STOP ABUSING ELANOR!" Kes yelled, and then realized that Elanor wasn't in the movie. She was rather embarrassed, but no one seemed to mind. So she reached for another piece of pizza, just as they got to the good part- Rivendell. Rivendell was the epitomy of funny things in the movie. There was so much one could say in that section to make people laugh.
As Boromir rode in, Kes said "This isn't Osgiliath!" she wondered if anyone else had gotten that... Perhaps, on some odd off-chance, they had. So she continued. "Gondor has no pants... Gondor needs no pants."
"He is Arogon, son of Alfred."
"This is the Heir of Condo?"
They were joining in! Huzzah! What larks! Kes expermentally flipped a piece of popcorn as Kryst's head. She ducked at an exceptionally well-aimed kernel flew back at her, and then she proceeded to attack again. She assembeld her troops in an offensive position, ready to advance at a moment's notice.
Eep! Another piece of popcorn flew at her, this time from the opposite direction. It was Sarah! Well, we would just see is she could get away with that..
As the Council of Elrond waged on, the popcorn war was in full fling. Kes tried in vain to eat a piece of chocolate while avoiding being hit, but she was laughing too hard. She choked on the chocolate, but not severly. So she took a drink of water, and choked even more, trying unsuccessfully to stop laughing. Everyone was slightly worried, but Kes waved them off.
"It happens all the time," she said, after gasping for breath a few times. "I always drink too fast and choke. I'll be okay. I'm only dead."
They all snackled and threw more popcorn at her, just to make sure that she really was dead. Kes took a piece out of her hair and ate it defiantly. She wondered if she had pulled that off right. Eating defiantly is not something that is easily done. In fact, it had seemed more gleeful than defiant, but of course Kes didn't know that. Either way, she didn't mind the next barrage, even though she was trying to watch Sam be spiffy for the twentieth or twenty-first time.

'It is a gift! Why not use this popcorn?' Kryst said as she hurtled a volley of popcorn towards Kes. 'The popcorn answers to Sauron alone. It has no other master...' Sarah said as she joined in, a tad reluctantly. The popcorn was hurtled to and from either side of the room, and all around people were ducking, and aiming. All the while, quoting the movie at the precise time.
Kryst stumbled out into the middle of the room, right as Kes was making a shot at Christine. "Kryst, get back! Kryst! Get back! Thanks..." she yelled in a most excellent scottish accent. Kryst shot forth to dodge the volley of popcorn, but was hit by a kernal anyway. She staggered to the floor, moaning.
Kes walked out and look down at Kryst. "The Ring cannot be destroyed by any craft we here posess, Gimli, son of Gloin..." Kryst chuckled and got up. For a while everyone gathered back and watched the movie in peace. But everyone was clutching their popcorn, ready to strike at the most opportune time that would correspond with the movie.

After a few more occasional random outbursts of people throwing popcorn, the movie had ended, and all was sad. But the hour was late, and time for rest.
'Well, I hope everyone sleeps well tonight! We shall see The Two Towers tomorrow, eh?' Everyone cheered to that, though they were all pretty tired and about to fall asleep.
'Okay... so.. we should all get to bed before someone hurts themselves,' everyone nodded, rubbed their eyes some, and slowly, one by one, began to sneak off to their room.
Sarah was by herself in front of the blank screen. She picked up all the popcorn, went and locked all the doors, shut the windows, straightened up the place, and then finally, went to bed herself. Tomorrow was a new day.

Kes strolled off to her room, collapsing upon her bed and looking at the clock. I was 12:15.. not actually that late in her mind. Watching movies always made her tired, though, and she had indulged in a very active popcorn war.. surely she would be able to sleep well enough. She was always uncomfortable and slept poo.rly the first night in a new place, but after such a day she had hoped to actually get some rest. It was a little early for her to be retiring on her normal schedule... but that was alright, wasn't it? Better to be able to get up earlier tomorrow. So she brushed her teeth, washed her face, changed into pajamas, and got into bed, finding it surprisingly comfortable. Most hotel-like places had smelly and rather uncomfortable beds; this was a welcome change.
Somehow, though, Kes couldn't seem to find a good position to sleep in, and her mind held too firmly to awareness. She got tired of clenching her eyes shut, so she lay on her back staring at the ceiling. Maybe she was nervous about being in a completely new place with new people, maybe it was the excitement of the evening, maybe all of the junk-like food being consumed late at night was taking its toll. Whatever the cause, Kes quite decidedly couldn't sleep.
What was there to do? She could read, but for some reason she didn't want to. She could write, but she felt oddly uninspired. She was loathe to make too noise, assuming that was the only one in the building who was still awake. 1:26. A bit late for anyone to be about. She was having a strong bout of nighttime depression, though, and sea-longing to top it all off. Kes was restless, she had to go somewhere and do something, now. Sighing, she sat up and looked around. Well, there was nothing for it. She would go for a walk around the grounds or something.
Shadow was nowhere to be found, but that was no real concern. There were other cats here, and cat-like places for them to go. Kes slipped on some shoes and a jacket, then opened her door softly and crept out into the hall. The dark and quiet were stifling, and everyone seemed to be asleep. Or was that a light at the far end of the hall? Well, even if someone else was still up, like as not they wouldn't want to be disturbed, and at times like this Kes needed to be alone. She succeeded in walking down the hall with only a moderate amount of bumps and creaks, though she was not so lucky on the stairs.
If I'm fortunate, only half the place will have been woken up by that, she thought. Well, hopefully they'll go straight back to sleep and not bother investigating. Where to go now, though? She hoped fervently that she would be able to get out the front door and not lock herself out... or even be able to get out at all. Otherwise she might just succeed in losing herself downstairs and be found the next morning in a very embarrassing position.
