UnTolkien-wise, perhaps, but I've always thought of the moon being female and the sun being male, too!

Yeah, I won't get into technicalities, but... in that sense... neither the sun or the moon really CAN be of a gender, as they lack... er... yeaaaah.

Alas! I was really excited about the Lunar Eclipse but wouldn't you know it was cloudy here last night? And today for that matter, and foggy. Oh well, maybe next time.
