Faramir
Faramir was out and away from his dear wife's sight. He was glad of it. He did not wish her to worry. He too, did not wish to put more thought into this, but he could not help it.
"But, they are small and hold no true threat to Ithilien.”
Eowyn's words echoed inside his head, making it impossible for him to think of anything else. No true threat? He wondered. How could they know? How could they be positively sure that the bandits were harmless? They were bandits, no matter how many; they held a true threat to Ithilien. He'd always been careful not to underestimate anyone, certainly not bandits. He stood still, frowned and tried push away the disturbing thoughts that were currently occupying him.
He felt drowsiness taking over, but he did not go to bed yet. Something kept him; it kept him. He did not wish to sleep on this matter, he wanted to act. But how he was to act was still a mystery to him. What could he and his men do? They were not even fully aware of the bandits' location. Should they wait for the bandits to come to them? It sounded like a good plan at first, but he realised soon enough that it was actually otherwise. By letting the bandits come to them, he was risking that something would happen to the people of Ithilien. It would be wrong of him, as a leader, to put others in danger to make it easy; yes, this was probably the easiest solution to their current problem, but he could not as a decent man allow it without further thought and consideration. But if they were prepared for it, if he told his men to be on guard at all times, it could possibly work, he thought to himself. They would catch the bandits before they could make harm.
He concluded that this was probably the best for now. The main point was that the people of Ithilien and Eowyn were safe. It was part of his job to make sure that they were. He hadn’t neglected his duties before, and he would not do so now either. Satisfied by this, he went to bed and let the drowsiness take over completely.
